Random number generator

Number of children living in our house at the moment: 0
Number of children temporarily terrorising their granny and grandad for 2 nights: 2 (hee!)
Number of times husband and I will eat illicit restaurant or M&S food while they are gone: 2 (at least)
Number of days I have managed to go to work this week: 2 (yay me)
Number of times I drove round the block this morning before actually entering work car park: 3
Number of minutes I sat in car before plucking up the courage to actually go into the office: 10 (I'm working on that one)
Number of people I have spoken to in the office today: 3
Number of people I managed to make eye contact with: 0 (people are assuming I have grown my fringe really long as I so rarely raise my head these days)
Number of times Husband calls just to check I'm ok: plenty
Number of times a day I thank goodness I am married to Husband: lots

And just to cheer us all up, a wee excerpt from our holiday conversations:

First Born: What's the definition of "vet"?
Rest of us: Don't know, what?
First Born: A soggy german.

Too much exposure to Uxbridge English Dictionary at an impressionable age, I think.

  1. I don't know what I would have done without my husband either. They're such wonderful creatures, aren't they? Hope you enjoy your food! :)

  2. Heh. Gotta love lexical humour.

And good for you on the work stuff. Softly softly catchy monkey.

  3. Yes, that sounds so familiar from my son-in-law - only his situation has been going on for a long time and his current situation is a lot less successful. Well done you.

Your son might not know what you call a Frenchman wearing sandals? Philippe Philoppe? (Courtesy of my son, at tea time, and he has less excuse because he's 23.)

  4. First off: well done you for getting back to work! Eye contact can come later... getting there is the main thing to start with.

It does all sound so familiar - I'm the one who makes the phone calls, possibly less successfully than your husband. I hope you continue to get better and enjoy your illicit flirtation with M&S.

I've just passed the vet joke on to J, and raised a giggle. And he's 28.

  5. I reckon work is not the place for eye contact anyway. In fact, I avoid my work colleagues as much as possible. The boss told me off the other day for "not engaging" with the other staff. I'm now under orders to keep my door open at all times! She didn't mention eye contact though.

Actually, I avoid eye contact with my family most of the time too. Hmmm...depression is more common than many people think, isn't it?

I agree with your comment and the responses you've received: You, like J, are both greatly blessed by having wonderful partners.
