Good news

Not a proper post today, just two bits of news that made me happy. The first one because I have a dyscalculic son and most people have never even heard of dyscalculia. It is rare to read anything about the condition at all, never mind reading that they might be figuring out how to deal with it.

And the second one just proves that Canadian people really are generally wonderful.

  1. I wonder if dyscalculia is as prevalent as dyslexia. And imagine, this could lead to significant inroads in dealing with that as well.

And is discalculia (I'd never seen the word, but it's logical) the same as innumeracy? or just related?

  2. Well, some Canadians are. I find the people on the east coast to be generally warm and wonderful. Can't say the same about Vancouver. In my part of Ontario there are folk like the Larges; there are also people who steal generators during an ice storm. More of the former than the latter. But I dislike being in Toronto - too many closed faces and too much rushing.
Hmm. I guess I have just said I'm a country girl.

  5. I had never heard of dyscalculia before. I can only imagine how hard that would make day-to-day life. Glad to hear that they might be coming up with ways to deal with it.

  6. I worked with someone last year who was dyscalculic but I'd never heard of it before then. She had a really bad awareness of time and organising her calendar was a bit of a nightmare. But however deficient she was on the numbers side of life, she totally overcompensated on the words side and shone wonderfully in that respect. Hopefully your laddie will find his niche to shine in too :-)
